 | 11:20 am KBTX is a TV station in Texas, and they are running a poll asking whether evolution, creationism, or both should be taught in public schools. How about the half dozen of you who still read this go vote?

 | 12:21 pm Magneto has the ability to utilize magnetic fields. The Earth's magnetic fields curve inwards at the poles, and are not actually present above a portion of the land there. Is Magneto powerless at the poles?

 | 09:47 am Hi. Iced tea rules. Work sucks. My wife ate most of my chocolate Christmas bear, but I didn't want most of it anyway. Inventory is tonight. Two of the crew have never been through one, so we have to deal with that. Hooray. I hate inventory.
What is your favorite historical period? What do you like best about it? Would you like to live there? What character would you like to have been, famous or not?
I would probably choose Rome, sometime close but prior to 180AD. The Empire was at its greatest, and there had been relative peace for almost two centuries, give or take a civil war or two. I would like to think I would have been in the legions, hopefully well decorated, and making my way towards Consul. Yeah, we'll go with that.

 | 01:43 pm The previous entry was a false alarm. The guy--old house owner's old roomate--didn't know what he was talking about. One of these days I'll update with something useful. In the mean time...

 | 10:06 am I'm looking for a place from which to buy wall size maps of the ancient world. Most of the places I've found were pretty steep in price for anything of decent size. I did find one nice map for $35 (24" x 36"), but I'd like something larger. In particular I'm looking for the Roman Empire in AD 117, Gaul during Julius Caesar's campaign, and Alexander the Great's empire. However, if I find something else along those lines that I like, I won't be picky. Thanks in advance.

 | 03:41 pm Dear LJland friends,
My wife needs a place to host her nudies. Photobucket keeps deleting them, and the other hosting sites she's tried have maximum usage, and she keeps running out. Do any of you know of any free hosting sites that either have no bandwitdh limits or very high ones and allow nudies? Alternatively, do any of you who have servers want to host them for her?

 | 11:02 am I was cruising around the information superhighway and came across this gem.
http://www.medieval-castles.org/index.php/medieval_weapons
My first thought after reading it was, "this is a big project for a twelve year old." Christ on a stake, that page is about as useless as high school abstinence education.
Since I'm here, anybody have any good sources for large scale land and siege warfare in the middle ages and before?

 | 09:48 am Does anyone know how to make ipod recognize a video as a television episode? I've looked at a few applications that claim to be able to do it, but the only one that didn't involve practically reprogramming the ipod started its instructions saying to set the album, track, and a few other fields on the video in itunes. Well, those fields don't exist for videos in itunes, so I dunno what to do. Anyone have any ideas?

 | 08:32 am My iPod seems to work. Hooray. I can't figure out how to add videos after syncing the music. Supposedly you just drag them to "ipod", but it doesn't seem to actually work that way. I can add audio books, but they show up under music instead of audio books. I can sync photos just fine, but I don't think i can add them by hand.
Those of you who have iPods with both audio and video content, how do you manage your setup? I'm decidedly not going to re-sync my music every time. According to the pop-up box, it will delete everything on the iPod and re-copy the music. Not only do I not want non-music things changed when I mess with the music, I've got 30 gigs of it and am not going to re-copy everything just because I want to add a few songs.
What I'd like to do is sync my music, without deleting it every time, and hand-add videos and audio books. Is that possible? I'll settle for hand-managing everything I guess.
And mostly, how do you add a video at all?
