Can any of you suggest a way of using bananas that doesn't involve smoothies, waffles, bread, or dessert? I'm not necessarily trying to use up bananas. We usually put them in the freezer when they start going bad and make bread out of them when we accumulate enough. I just want an interesting way to use them. Are there any savory banana recipes? Thanks.

She's taking her own sweet time being born, that's for sure. Victoria is getting antsy. She's a week and two days overdue. I told her to go make an apple tart to take her mind off of things. mmmmm She's good.

We just watched G.I. Joe. I guess it was alright. It had lots of explosions at least.

WRT my recent post on organic food, see last night's episode of Penn and Teller's Bullshit about organic food. Sorry, once again I can't find the whole episode. Yes Leo, I checked myspace google too. :P It was just last night, so it's not surprising.

http://mainstreamparenting.wordpress.com/2009/07/29/uk-food-standards-agency-says-no-evidence-organic-is-better/

The British Food Standards Agency, set up in 2000 by the British government in order to protect the public’s health and consumer interests regarding food products, has published an extensive and independent review of the literature comparing conventional and ‘organic’ food. Their conclusion?

An independent review commissioned by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) shows that there are no important differences in the nutrition content, or any additional health benefits, of organic food when compared with conventionally produced food. The focus of the review was the nutritional content of foodstuffs.

Gill Fine, FSA Director of Consumer Choice and Dietary Health, said: ‘Ensuring people have accurate information is absolutely essential in allowing us all to make informed choices about the food we eat. This study does not mean that people should not eat organic food. What it shows is that there is little, if any, nutritional difference between organic and conventionally produced food and that there is no evidence of additional health benefits from eating organic food.

the Texas State Board of Education adopted new science standards for the public schools in Texas
The new guidelines include language that leaves the door open for creationists to wedge religious myths into the science curriculum. The vote on the overall standard was 13-2 to adopt.

The insanity never stops. Florida tried to pass a similarly ridiculous bill, but it was shot down. I just do not understand why people who refuse to understand science keep trying to force those of us who do understand it to let them teach magic to our children and call it science. Just stop. Okay? Take some classes. Read a book. Talk to a 12 year old. Do something to learn how science works. Then come back and we'll talk.

This week... we shall review the evidence that the media actually kills people.
And it has been shown repeatedly that suicide increases in the month after a front page suicide story. There is also evidence that the effect is bigger for famous people and gruesome attempts.

I'm absolutely against any form of censorship, mind you, but I do agree with at least some of this. I don't blame it all on "the media" either really. They give the people what they want, right?

This ought to piss a lot of people off.

Druids Committed Human Sacrifice, Cannibalism?
Recent evidence that Druids possibly committed cannibalism and ritual human sacrifice—perhaps on a massive scale—add weight to ancient Roman accounts of Druidic savagery, archaeologists say.

Mmmmm, apple juice and pear smoothies. I wish I could find pear juice. Anyone know where I can find it? I suppose I could just buy pears and make my own. I watched season 1 of Rome today. It was very entertaining. I'd like to mention that as far as I know, Romans didn't march, or rather what they called marching wasn't what we call marching. We made pampushki, lecso, and chicken and black beans yesterday. Next time we're going to combine the lecso and chicken and black beans. My roommate was late for his first day of his new job. I'm naming my son William Augustus. What do you think?
