 | 10:40 am - oreshki - ukrainian nut cookies as some of you know, my boyfriend is a russian immigrant who came here as a teenager. while we were visiting his family in orange county this year, his mother made some traditional ukrainian cookies BY HAND with us. god, they are soooo good. they are called oreshki and are made by baking the halves, then filling them with a mixture made of nuts, leftover crumbs from making the cookies (for extra crunch), hazelnut paste, and condensed milk that has been boiled in the can for many hours to make it taffylike.
here is a finished oreshki. look how delicious that looks!

 | 11:21 am - As Brett nears 500 . . . Favre has 488 TD passes as I write this. Five games to go. It's do-able.
Somehow, I think that December 20 Sunday nighter (Vikings at Carolina) stays where it is.

 | 11:41 am - Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences + C.S.M. 1. Dear God, please confirm what I already believe
Intuiting God's beliefs on important issues may not produce an independent guide, but may instead serve as an echo chamber to validate and justify one's own beliefs
No duh?
2. Christian Monitor story on the treatment of Christians in Muslim countries in light of the Minaret ban in Switzerland.
the referendums outcome pales in comparison to restrictions on non-Muslims who aim to practice their faith in Muslim lands. In fact, the vote only brought Swiss legal practice closer to that of many majority Muslim states that also place limits on the construction of houses of worship.

 | 02:36 pm - Garlic Prawn and Spinach Pasta

My latest “thing” is meal in ones on weeknights…mainly pastas but instead of throwing together a salad, I throw in some veggies to the pasta. I got really lazy, and I didn’t even bother to roast my tomatoes in the oven for the smokey taste. Mainly cos I wanted the garlic flavour to be intense…def not a first date meal unless well…your date is a garlic fiend too…then it is all good! Dinner was ready in 30 minutes….and it sure hit the spot. I like it that this pasta doesn't involve any wine and instead I used the shells from the prawns to make a stock for the pasta.

 | 04:13 pm - Renaissance French Hello everyone-
Does anyone have any recommendations for books (that could be found here in France), or online resources (in French or English) that discuss the French language at the time of the Renaissance. I'm looking for anything that would talk about the spelling, the different words used, the difference in syntax. Also- any resources that would help teaching about reading medieval and renaissance manuscripts.
Thank you in advance for your help!

 | 12:53 pm - I love the smell of roasted tuna in the morning... It smells like victory.
There is very little that can improve a terrible season more than thoroughly squishing the fish, and Sunday was no exception. Obviously T.O. doing Joey Porter's little gay dance after scoring a 51 yard TD was utterly classless, and I loved every second of it.
So, onwards and upwards. At least for the Browns, as the fact that they lost by 9 to the Bengals while St Louis lost by 10 to the Seahawks was enough to ease the Brownies off the bottom rung of the ladder. With that in mind, it's on to this week's totally scientific power rankings.
1. New Orleans 2. Indianapolis 3. Minnesota 4. New England 5. San Diego 6. Cincinnati 7. Dallas 8. Baltimore 9. Pittsburgh 10. Denver 11. Arizona 12. Green Bay 13. Philadelphia 14. Atlanta 15. New York G 16. Miami 17. New York J 18. Houston 19. San Francisco 20. Tennessee 21. Chicago 22. Seattle 23. Jacksonville 24. Carolina 25. Buffalo 26. Kansas City 27. Washington 28. Oakland 29. Detroit 30. Tampa Bay 31. Cleveland 32. St Louis
There are no (other) reasons. Just the facts.

 | 11:25 am Hey,
Can someone give me a nicely clear and succinct summary on what on earth εΎ— means in Mandarin? I suspect that it might be quite complicated but my teacher doesnt seem to want to tell me any meaning at all. Literally. So if someone could give me a quick note on its various meanings I would be a happy bunny:)

 | 09:20 pm - LP Platform on Environment and a poll http://www.lp.org/poll/which-of-the-following-statements-best-matches-your-view-of-global-warming
Take the poll above as the LP, well, Wes Benedict wants an opinion. I'm quite surprised by the voting outcome given after one votes.
And here's from our platform: http://www.lp.org/platform (please read the preamble putting things in context before running off at the mouth - you know who you are... ;-p) 2.2 Environment
We support a clean and healthy environment and sensible use of our natural resources. Private landowners and conservation groups have a vested interest in maintaining natural resources. Pollution and misuse of resources cause damage to our ecosystem. Governments, unlike private businesses, are unaccountable for such damage done to our environment and have a terrible track record when it comes to environmental protection. Protecting the environment requires a clear definition and enforcement of individual rights in resources like land, water, air, and wildlife. Free markets and property rights stimulate the technological innovations and behavioral changes required to protect our environment and ecosystems. We realize that our planet's climate is constantly changing, but environmental advocates and social pressure are the most effective means of changing public behavior.

 | 08:59 pm - Stuffed Pork Loin tonight i was a tad grumpy so we skipped the gym and we headed home so i could relax and cook. i made a porkloin stuffed with herbed goat cheese, spinach, garlic, and parmesan. i served it with the rest of the spinach (we like it steamed with just vinegar and salt) and a super yummy heirloom tomato salad tossed with greek dressing, feta cheese, and blue cheese stuffed olives.
