"Beg the question" does not mean "ask the question." Stop using it as such.


A hieroglyph is a symbol. Hieroglyphic is an adjective, as in "the hieroglyphic writing was found on the temple wall." Hieroglyphic is not a noun, as in "the hieroglyphic was found on the temple wall." Stop using it as such.

As for the first: you're pissing into the wind, I'm afraid. "Begging the question" will still have its classical meaning in an argumentative context. Outside of that it will mean . . . something else. Yay for the fluidity of language.

I know I'm just being a fuddy-duddy. I understand the fluidity of language, and it holds my interest. I don't know why this one phrase gets me. I guess it's just one of those things.
